Project Overview

Project Background

Weichai Holding Group Co., Ltd., founded in 1946, is a leading Chinese multinational industrial equipment group with significant global influence. Its main businesses cover six segments: powertrain systems, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, smart logistics, and marine transportation equipment. With 100,000 employees worldwide, its annual revenue exceeds RMB 300 billion. With the continuous advancement of vehicle intelligence, the smart logistics business has also developed rapidly. Leveraging the group's complete commercial vehicle industry chain and ecosystem, Weichai has been developing products in areas such as telematics, autonomous driving, smart logistics, and aftermarket services, building a big data platform for connected vehicles to integrate public and private data.

However, the challenge is that traditional databases can no longer meet the rapidly growing data processing demands. Facing vehicle telematics data that has already reached terabyte or even petabyte scale, more advanced distributed computing and data storage technologies need to be introduced.

Requirements

  • Replace the existing Greenplum database, requiring compatibility and GIS capabilities.

  • Columnar OLAP capability to handle complex queries under high concurrency.

  • Current data volume is 6 TB, expected to expand to tens of TB in the future. Among them, the national road network table has 20 million records, and the Weifang-Zibo road network table has 80,000 records.

Implementation Plan

Given Weichai's massive data volume and geographically distributed scenarios, this project adopted the GBase distributed database from General Data Technology Co., Ltd. It not only offers excellent compatibility with system servers and operating systems, supporting GIS data storage and querying, but its high scalability easily handles future rapid data growth.

To ensure data availability, the GBase distributed database was deployed with three high-availability groups acting as mutual primary/backup, achieving distributed HA with minimal configuration while meeting system stability requirements.

Application Results

  • GBase distributed database is highly compatible with Greenplum syntax, enabling seamless migration and replacement, with strong GIS support.

  • Complex query performance under high concurrency has improved by 20%.

  • The distributed cluster offers extensive scalability to sustain future business growth.
