Project Overview
1. Project Background
The D5000 system is a critical technical support platform for power grid operation control and dispatch management. It integrates traditional basic application systems of dispatch centers into a secure, unified platform that fully supports and hosts four major application suites: real-time monitoring and early warning (new-generation EMS), operations planning (OPS), security checking (SCS), and operations management (OMS). Core capabilities include data acquisition and exchange, steady-state grid monitoring, automatic generation control, state estimation, dynamic grid monitoring and analysis, integrated intelligent analysis and alarming, and online stability analysis. The system also features automatic voltage control, smart switching order, and integrated intelligent alarming, providing robust support for safe and stable grid operation while meeting the demands of dispatch and monitoring professionals.
2. Key Concerns
Database performance under high concurrency: The system's high-concurrency workloads demand a database capable of handling multi-user, high-frequency access and delivering accurate, timely data under sustained pressure.
Database stability: As a mission-critical dispatch management system, D5000 requires the database to guarantee data security, reliability, and consistency even during network interruptions, host power failures, or other unexpected events.
High-availability clustering: Future dispatch system data architecture planning imposes extremely high requirements on database high availability.
Read/write splitting and load balancing in database clusters: A single-node database cannot fully satisfy future data consolidation goals. Database clustering technology that enables multi-node read/write splitting and load balancing is essential to share workloads and improve availability.
3. Construction Requirements
Build a high-availability database cluster;
Achieve rapid ingestion of large-scale sampling data;
Provide real-time table-level data synchronization across network isolation devices;
Synchronize data between State Grid's production control zone (Safety Zone I) and corporate IT zone (Safety Zone III), ensuring databases in both zones can serve business applications;
Support wide tables with up to 1,440 columns;
Enable real-time data backup and automatic failover.
Implementation Plan
The system uses General Data Technology's GBase 8s database to build a high-availability Shared Storage Cluster (SSC), deployed at State Grid Shaanxi Branch's offices in Xi'an, Xianyang, and Tongchuan. Currently, six GBase 8s instances are deployed at the Xianyang branch, six at Xi'an, and six at Tongchuan. GBase RTsync enables table-level real-time data synchronization across network isolation devices, and a custom-developed communication mechanism resolves data transmission challenges through State Grid's network gateways.
GBase 8s successfully replaced Oracle without modifying a single line of source code in State Grid's core business systems.
Application Outcomes
Advanced Architecture Design: A customized synchronization solution across network security gateways enables second-level data sync between Zone 1 and Zone 3. Failover completes automatically within one minute, with an active-active cluster providing high availability and the database being completely transparent to applications.
Proven Success with a China-Developed Database: This project stands as a benchmark case of a database system developed in China running a core energy industry application. It fully met customer requirements for stability, functionality, performance, and high availability in supporting mission-critical operations, offering a model and reference for other energy sector users.
